If I hypothetically dropped my phone into a toilet, and it wouldn't turn on or anything afterwards, what would I do? Now, I definitely didn't do this, but if I did, some advice would be greatly appreciated. Also, if this was a real situation, which it definitely isn't, the phone would likely be a Samsung Intensity II. I have some car pr0nz for your trouble.

Have you dried off the phone? If not, then place it in a resealable bag of uncooked rice.

The fix everyone tries is keeping it in a bag of rice overnight to suck out the moisturez. I dunno if that'll work in this situation. It sounds bad.

DO NOT TURN THE PHONE ON. Put it in some rice to dry it out. If that doesn't work you're up the creek.

you can hypothetically try rice, but in hypothetical reality, you are hypothetically fucked.

Get a bag full of rice and put your phone in it immediately, make sure the phone is completely buried in the rice. The rice can absorb the water and possibly save your device. If that doesn't work, buy a new phone and cook the rice with a tasty Asian meal. :)

DO NOT TRY TO CHARGE OR TURN IT ON!!! let it dry. If it fell into anything other than water, go buy some distilled water and soak it again. Most of the time, water doesn't break electronics, it's when you try to run current through them while they are wet that kills them. I've saved my laptop from beer twice by turning it over and removing the battery and putting it in front (while upside down) of a space heater.

Everyone is saying throw it in rice, which is true, but the first thing is to

SEPARATE THE BATTERY FROM THE PHONE. All contact surfaces must be dried. Wipe rice dust off before using again. Wait at least 3-4 hours MINIMUM.

Did you put it in rice immediately after you dunked it?

After you put it in rice, you add some beans, cheese, sour cream, lettuce, maybe some salsa and wrap it in a flour tortilla.

This. I mean, you don't need a "bag full" of rice - after all, 25 lb bags of rice are pretty common - just a bowl full of rice so you can completely submerge the phone in rice will be good enough.

It'll just have to sit overnight in the rice (or longer if you just want to be safe). Don't mess around with it in the meanwhile.

Water does not hurt electronics... Just an FYI, its electricity going through the wrong paths, sediment, and corrosion.

1) Pull battery set aside

2) Re douse the phone is distilled water (No sediment)

3) Leave to dry in a well ventilated area - Compliment with silica packets

Notes: Rice is a popular myth and does little but does add dust that can get into the phone and settle where it shouldn't

Do not heat the phone, water + heat == deformed boards and circuits

Wait a couple days before putting the battery in, not hours, not overnight... a couple days.

Thank you for offering the other bit of sane advice! Rice, pft...

NP. The whole distilled water thing is because tap water has minerals in it that can still fuck up circuit boards even after the water has dried.

Remove the battery first, also.

saved a key fob that went through the wash with rice! Also saved my old iPod shuffle that spent a night in a snow bank that way...

Haha, yep. Go find my post. I said essentially what you did before I saw your post. I just wanted to comment that you were not alone and I was glad to see another bit of good advice.

Nice, I just saw it, I prob. should have added to put the heat at the same temp as the room on the space heater, or basically just the fan over night. :) phone, I would prob. wait more than over night.
